The passing of Kofi Annan, 80, has left a huge void and vacuum in a continent of Africa still grappling with death of great political icon Nelson Mandela. Both Mandela and Annan will forever remain among greatest sons of Africa in every sense of the word. Their vision, courage and high sense of integrity will always be worthy of emulation.
Mr. Annan was a trailblazer elected in 1996 as first black African Secretary- General of the United Nations, a body dedicated to fighting injustice through the Security Council and to his credit helped empower and fought tenaciously to elevate status of women during his 10 year tenure.
UN Secretary-General Annan was the personification of integrity, humanism and compassion. Any observer Mr. Annan knows how through his foundation he work tirelessly and assiduously on such issues as poverty, the environment and global peace.
Although Africa lost another great son Kofi Annan, but he sure left an erasable legacy. Here are a few of his quotes below –
In his words, “Peace is never a perfect achievement” -Kofi Annan
“You are never too young to lead” – Kofi Annan
“The world is not ours to keep. We hold it in trust for future generations” – Kofi Annan
