As the 2024 presidential election approaches, one can’t help but wonder if we are witnessing a repeat of the 2020 race. While it’s too early to predict the outcome, it’s clear that this election, featuring former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, is shaping up to be an epic contest that will demand the nation’s attention.

With over three decades of political education and leadership experience, I believe I have enough insight to offer my thoughts on this unfolding race. The stakes are high, and both candidates bring unique strengths and challenges to the table.

The race is currently a toss-up, with some polls showing Vice President Kamala Harris holding a slight lead, while others indicate that former President Trump is still in contention. Given the ebb and flow of polling numbers, it’s fair to say that this is a close contest where either candidate could prevail.

One significant advantage for Kamala Harris is the influence and support of former President Barack Obama. His political acumen and eight years of experience in the White House are invaluable assets. Additionally, Harris’s campaign has brought on board several of Obama’s top strategists, including David Plouffe, which could be a game-changer. Harris’s impressive fundraising efforts, surpassing $300 million in a short period, further bolster her campaign, potentially putting her in a strong position against Trump.

However, winning an election is about more than just endorsements and money. For Trump to remain competitive, he must stay focused on the issues that matter most to voters. It is crucial that he avoids getting caught up in personal attacks and instead presents a clear and positive vision for the country’s future. The key for him is to remain calm, unruffled, and disciplined, ensuring his campaign stays on message.
Similarly, Kamala Harris must also be cautious not to let her opponent define her. With Obama’s guidance and a strong team behind her, she has the tools needed to communicate her vision effectively. Her challenge will be to connect with voters on a personal level and convince them that she is ready to lead.

As the election draws nearer, it is essential that both candidates engage in a fair fight. Personal attacks and malicious rhetoric have no place in a race as consequential as this. Instead, the focus should be on the issues that will determine the future of the nation. Both Trump and Harris have the opportunity to show voters that they are capable of leading with integrity and respect.

The 2024 presidential race is far from over, with months to go and countless developments still to unfold. Whether you are a Democrat, Republican, or Independent, brace yourself for what promises to be a long and unpredictable journey to Election Day. This race is just beginning, and it will undoubtedly be one to remember.

Currently, with 270 electoral votes to win the presidency, a national poll has both Trump at 45% and Kamala 47% which is a virtual statistical tie.
