On Monday, October 2, New York City mayor Eric Adams joined to celebrate historic flag raising ceremony for Nigeria at Bowling Green Park, by the raging bull in Manhattan.
Nigeria black most populous nation in black Africa attained independence October 1, 1960. How significant this first official flag raising took place a day after Nigerians celebrated their 63rd anniversary of her independence from Britain.
Hon. Ebony Young, deputy Queens Borough President was amongst guests who was on hand to witness the ceremony.
In her brief remarks, Ms. Young gushed about her ancestry and DNA results pointing to Nigeria. Coincidentally, Ms. Young and her Queens Borough team took a summer business trip to Lagos Nigeria on a successful tech mission.
Others who graced this event included H.E Muhammad Tijani-Bande Nigerian born politician and diplomat, President of the 74th session of the General Assembly.
Dr. Phillip O. Ozuah, M.D, Ph.d , President and CEO of Montefiore Medicine, the Governor of Niger State in Nigeria, New York City commissioner of Immigrant Affairs Manuel Castro and representatives of the City and Bronx Borough were all in attendance.
Under the leadership of mayor Adams, who is the 110th mayor of the greatest City in the world has hosted many nations flag raising as a way of reminding all about collective values, vision shared within New York City cultural mosaic.
The Nigerian flag raising was organized by Nigerian Consulate under the leadership of Ambassador Peter Lot Egopija and New York City African Council.
