Southerland who went to Benjamin N. Cardozo High School, is now in her Senior year at Oregon University. Southerland was considered the favorite to win the 800-meter title finished 7th with a time of 2:06.99.

“I didn’t recognize myself as the favorite, but it would have been nice to win at the last NCAA meet at Hayward,” Southerland said. “I went out there and did the best I could given the conditions and given how I was feeling.”

“I’m not going to let this race define me,” Southerland said. “This doesn’t reflect who I am as a runner and as a person. To me, disheartening to have this outcome.”

Benjamin N. Cardozo High School and the rest of NYC are extremely proud of Sabrina. Just to make it to the NCAA Championships is a huge accomplishment on its own. We look forward to watching Sabrina run on June 21st at the USATF Outdoor Championships in Drake Stadium – Drake University.
